Preston Blair was an Americancharacter animator, best remembered for his work atWalt Disney Productions and theMetro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio, including animating images of MGM & Disney cartoon characters. In the late 1930s he moved over to the Disney studio. At Disney, Blair animated cartoon short subjects,Mickey Mousescenes, including some work onWalt Disney'sPinocchio (1940) and Bambi(1942). Blair left Disney and was hired to work for MGM.

요즘 식당에 가도 공원에 가도 스마트 폰을 손에 놓지 못하는 건 어른이나 아이나 마찬가지입니다. 분명 스마트폰은 우리 삶을 편리하게 만들어 줬습니다. 하지만 굳이 몰라도 되는 과다한 정보를 쉽게 받아들이고 있는 것도 사실이지요. 그렇게 우리는 편리하지만 복잡한 머리로 살고 있습니다. 불필요한 것에 시간을 허비하면서요. 그걸 경험한 어른인 우리는 아이들에게 영상을 보여주지 말아야겠다고 다짐하며 철저하게 차단해 보기도 합니다. 하지만 지금 시대에 영상을 무조건 차단하는 것이 답은 아닐 거예요. 문제는 무분별하게 절제 없이 영상물에 방치되는 것이겠죠. 특히 집에 있는 시간이 늘어난 요즘 시기에는 더욱더 그렇죠. 아이랑 시간을 정하고, 같이 영상을 보고 이야기를 나눌 수 있다면 영상은 단순한 미디어 매체 이상의 의미가 됩니다. 엄마와의 교감, 우리가 어떤 주제로 나눈 이야기. 서로의 추억이 쌓여가는 거죠. 저는 최근 아들과 〈달려라 하니〉 이야기를 하다가 영상을 함께 봤어요. 아들은 눈물을 글썽이더니 “하니 엄마는 어디 갔냐, 나애리는 왜 저렇게 못됐냐.” 등의 질문을 쏟아냈어요. 가끔은 아들이 좋아하는 〈헬로 닌자〉를 같이 보면서 닌자가 뭔지, 닌자의 동작을 같이 따라 해보기도 해요. 저에게 역할도 주어집니다. 물론 전 조연이고, 아들이 항상 주인공이에요(웃음). 제가 좋아하는 미야자키 하야오 감독의 영화도 같이 자주 봅니다. 영상물이 이야기를 나누고 감정을 교감하면서 즐기는 가족의 문화가 된다면 어떨까요. 집에 있는 시간이 긴 요즘, 아이와 어떻게 시간을 보내고 있나요? 다가오는 주말, 서로 추천하는 영상을 하나씩 골라 가족이 함께 보는 건 어떨까요?
