This book covers pathology, cell biology, radiology and treatment of preneoplasia and related proliferative diseases of the breast, including all lesions that must be considered in differential diagnosis. Depth of knowledge of normal breast epithelium has been shown to be of considerable importance to understanding benign proliferative breast disease lesions and breast malignancies. The main intention of this book is, therefore, to provide pathologists and other physicians involved in breast medicine with a newly formulated progenitor cell model of normal breast epithelium. Such a model explains the different cellular components of proliferative breast disease lesions and, more importantly, by understanding the lesions at this cellular level, opens up the use of immunohistochemistry, combined with traditional pattern recognition, as the most important differential diagnostic tool.
