Damien Hirst

Ann Gallagher  | TATE PUBLISHING
0원  | 20130101  | 9781849760102
"Damien Hirst is one of the most controversial and highly regarded artists of his generation. His wide-ranging practice, which includes installation, painting, sculpture and drawing, challenges the boundaries between art, science and popular culture. Published to accompany Hirst's first retrospective exhibition in the UK, staged at Tate Modern during the Olympics in 2012, this book will trace Hirst's career from his emergence on the art scene in the late 1980s to his present status as one of the best-known artists working today. With an introduction by curator Ann Gallagher, a new interview by Nicholas Serota, Director of Tate, and essays by curator Andrew Wilson, author and critic Brian Dillon and art historian and critic Thomas Crow, as well as shorter texts on key moments in Hirst's career by Michael Craig-Martin and Michael Bracewell. Exhibition: Tate Modern, London, UK (4.4.-9.9.2012) / LAMOCA, Los Angeles, USA (Autumn 2012)."--[Source inconnue].

Damien Hirst: Romance in the Age of Uncertainty (Damien Hirst)

Beard, Jason, Hirst, Damien  | ABRAMS
135,600원  | 20080501  | 9780954236373
This catalogue was produced to accompany Damien Hirsts 2003 exhibition at White Cube, London. The show dissected and recast the story of Jesus and his disciples through paintings and sculptural work while revealing the uncertainty at the heart of human experience. The exhibited works included The Apostles, a series of 13 clinical steel and glass cabinets filled with medical instruments, weapons, ornaments, blood, and lifes detrius: a dozen canvases encrusted with flies suspended in resin, each given a fatal disease for a title: skinned cows/bulls heads in individual tanks punctured/lacerated/stabbed with knives and glass fragments; and huge canvases embedded with butterfly wings arranged in extraordinary grid systems. This book contains 43 colour illustrations, including many details of the exhibited works and four gatefolds. An introductory essay by Annushka Shani examines each work more closely, drawing out the themes of love, life and death explored by Hirst through this exhibition. Softback with dust jacket 4 x gatefolds.

'This comprehensive monograph is a chance to view Le Brun's entire oeuvre, with lavish colour plates that do his raw quality and emotive response to symbolism proud.' Antiques Magazine '[his] monograph shows Le Brun's massive achievement so far...his paintings, his more recent forays into sculpture...his great power as a draughtsman...what a surprising and resourceful artist [he] has become.' Modern Painters Christopher Le Brun holds a passionate belief in the power of figurative art and the re-exploration of narrative. This book offers the most authoritative survey of his classical muscular visual vocabulary and symbolism which has brought a unique intensity and inventiveness to contemporary painting. It also gives due recognition to his work as a printmaker and sculptor through lavish illustrations, studio photographs, excerpts from sketchbooks and facsimiles of notebooks. An illuminating dialogue with legendary curator Bryan Robertson allows Le Brun to discuss the issues and passions that have informed his career while texts by Charles Saumarez Smith, Director of London's National Portrait Gallery, and art historian Nobert Lynton set his work in context. Designed by John Morgan.
