이 책은 큐레이터 맹지영이 2021년 2월 22일부터 3월 27일까지 30일동안 다섯 작가(샌정, 이재헌, 임충섭, 정경빈, 최상아)의 작품 1점당 20시간씩(1일 4시간) 총 720시간을 관람하면서 변화하는 생각을 글로 담고, 그 관람의 시간을 인스타그램 라이브로 송출했던 프로젝트의 기록이다. 이 프로젝트를 진행했던 웨스 WESS는 기획자 11명이 공동으로 운영하며 각자 주어진 기간에 자신의 기획을 선보일 수 있는 공간이다. 이곳의 공동운영자 중 한 명인 저자는 2021년 2-3월 5주에 걸쳐 《one at a time》을 기획했다. 이 기간동안 전시 공간은 저자만을 위한 감상의 공간으로 바뀌었고, 다섯 작가의 각 작품은 온전한 감상을 위해 한 주에 하나씩 볼 수 있도록 했다. 저자가 작품을 감상하는 동안 ‘관람객’들은 인스타그램 라이브를 통해서 작품이 아닌 그가 감상하는 모습만을 볼 수 있었다. 이 프로젝트는 큐레이터이자 감상자로서 작품과의 오롯한 만남을 보장받으며 작품을 이해하는 시간을 확보하고자 하는 저자의 실험인 동시에 작품을 보는 것의 본질적인 의미에 대해 질문을 던진다. 작품의 온전한 관람을 갈망하는 큐레이터 맹지영의 시도가 어떻게 변해가고 어디로 도달하게 되는지 그의 시간을 따라가다 보면 새로운 감상의 경험을 맞이하게 된다.
