본 상품은 컬러파일을 흑백으로 인쇄한 도서로 일부 컬러부분이 흐릿하게 인쇄될 수 있습니다. 요즘 유행하는 양자이론/ 끈이론[string theory]에 대한 정보를 접하게 되면서, 물론 그 복잡한 고차원 수학문제에 무지하여 건성으로 바라보지만, 사물의 본질을 향한 인간들의 프로메테우스적 원형에 경외심을 느낀다. 프로메테우스의 도발적인 원형에 의해 인간들은 공허한 진리의 세계를 향해 무한히 질주한다. 실재의 진리를 향한 인간들의 추구는 실험실, 연구실, 산사의 암자, 토굴에서 여전히 진행 중이다. 물리학자들은 물질을 쪼개고 쪼개어 이제는 눈으로 볼 수 없는 비가시적인 영역으로 진입한다. 이것이 물질의 비가시적인 영역을 탐구하는 양자적 영역이다. 물론 물질의 가시적인 영역을 탐구하는 것은 뉴턴의 고전역학[traditional mechanics]의 영역이다. 그러니까 인간들은 가시적인 세계와 비가시적인 세계를 중첩하고 있는 것이다. 다시 말해, 인간의 삶에 적용되는 것은 뉴턴역학과 양자역학이다. 그런데 뉴턴의 운동법칙은 정확히 적용되고 있으나 양자이론은 해석이 다양하고 불확실하다는 것이다. 그러니까 전자는 법칙의 일관성[coherence]을 유지하고 후자는 법칙의 비일관성[incohererence]을 유지한다는 것이다. 물체[material]라고 부르는 입자의 덩어리[mass] 상태와 개별적인 입자[particle]의 상태가 다르다는 것이다. 상식적으로 동질적인 성분인 전자와 후자의 상태는 일치하는 것이 참[true]일 텐데 그렇지 못하다는 것이다. 전자는 질서의 세계 속에 편입되고, 후자는 혼돈[chaos]의 무질서 속에 편입된다. 단단한 덩어리와 흩날리는 먼지의 상태. 데카르트의 “생각하는 주체”와 들뢰즈의 “애벌레 주체”의 대립. 이처럼 인간은 의식적이고 생물학적인 두 가지 주체를 소유한다. 그런데 양자는 한 공간에 존재하면서도 늘 갈등하고 대립한다. 인간의 역동적인 육신은 차가운 의식의 그물에 구속된 신세인 것이다. 앞으로 전개되는 본고의 내용은 파편적인 과학의 개념들과 오리무중의 문화적 개념들과의 어색한 소통에 관한 것들이다. 모호한 과학적인 개념들을 이해하면서 다소 문학적인 감수성을 향유하는 기회가 되었으면 좋겠다. 사실 후자가 없이는 전자가 무슨 의미가 있겠는가? 메마른 대지에서 상상의 나래를 펼치지 않는다면 삶의 가치와 보람이 어디에 있겠는가? 삭막한 현실에서 인간들이 꿈꾸지 않으면 물질의 풍요가 무슨 소용이 있겠는가? 그래서 철없는 인간의 낭만주의는 [자발적인 불신의 연기][suspension of voluntary disbelief]가 되는 것이다.
