토마스 베리 (지은이) 정보 더보기

20세기의 대표적인 생태사상가이며 문화사가였다. 그는 자신을 지구신학자(geologian)라고 부르기를 좋아했다. 현재 진행되는 전 지구적인 멸종 규모와 속도로 볼 때, 우리가 지질학적으로 지난 6,500만 년 동안 지속된 신생대(Cenozoic)의 마지막 단계를 살고 있으며, 이제 인류는 생태대(Ecozoic)를 향해 출애굽해야 할 과제를 안고 있다고 역설한 점에서 그는 위대한 예언자였다. 포담대학교 종교사 대학원 프로그램 소장, 리버데일 종교연구센터 소장, 미국 떼이야르 드 샤르댕 학회 회장을 역임했다. 그의 저서들 가운데 『신생대를 넘어 생태대로』, 『지구의 꿈』, 『위대한 과업』, 『우주 이야기』(브라이언 스윔과 공저), 『그리스도교의 미래와 지구의 운명』 등이 번역되었다.
