시드니 대학의 <젠더 및 문화 연구> 교수이다. 문화연구, 매체연구, 사회학 분야에 걸쳐 강의하고 책을 쓴다. 저서로는 『자기와 성교하기』(1993), 『소속의 바깥』(1996), 『육욕 : 음식섹스정체성』(2000), 그리고 엘리자베스 그로스와 공동편집한 『섹시한 몸』(1995) 등이 있다. 그녀의 최근작인 『홍조 : 부끄러운 얼굴』(Blush : Faces of Shame, 2005)은 부끄러움을 사회의 긍정적인 힘으로 그려낸다. 캐서린 럼비와 함께 소녀들의 감정에 대한 책을 쓰고 있다.
