캐나다 몬트리올 소재 맥길McGill 대학 교수이다. 전쟁이나 정치 폭력에 휘말린 어린이와 청소년을 주로 연구하는데, 특히 그중에서도 성차별적 폭력에 관심이 있다. 소년병이나 성폭력 희생자, HIV/AIDS 감염자 등 사회적으로 취약한 사람들과 같이 일했으며, 이에 관해 여러 책과 논문을 발표하고 글을 썼다. 자연스럽게 무력 분쟁에 노출된 어린이들의 처우 개선에 대해 관심을 기울여 각국 정부와 NGO에 전문가로서 자문을 꾸준히 하고 있다.
