영국 던디 대학에서 현대 영, 유럽 문학 연구로 석사 논문을 쓰고 랭커스터 대학에서 영문학 박사 과정을 졸업했다. 영국 및 유럽, 미국 현대 소설에 관심을 가지고 있고 문화 이론, 특히 심리분석, 포스트모더니즘, 범죄 소설과 영화를 중심으로 연구 중이다. 현재 포츠머스 대학 문학부 교수로 재직하고 있다. '텍스트 이론과 실천'이라는 유럽과 국제 문화 연구소의 소장직을 역임하고 있다. <스토킹>으로 2007년 타임지가 선정한 ‘올해의 젊은 학자’ 후보에 올랐다. *주요 저서 <포스트모더니즘과 현대 소설>(Postmodernism and the Contemporary Novel: A Reader, 2002) <스토킹>(Stalking, 2006). <캠브리지 포스트모던 소설 개론>(The Cambridge Introduction to Postmodern Fiction (Cambridge University Press, 출간 예정)
