학습과 행동장애를 가진 청소년을 가르쳤다. 캔자스에 있는 엠포리아 주립대학교에서 석사학위를 받았고, 그 후 캔자스 대학교의 의료센터에서 아동심리학자로 일했다. 또한 캔자스 대학교에서 교육학 박사를 받았으며, 켄터키 대학교의 특수교육과에서 정서.행동장애를 가진 학생들을 가르치는 교사들을 위해 졸업 후 직업준비프로그램 조정자로 근무했다. 현재는 켄터키 대학교의 명예교수이며 긍정적 행동중재와 지원을 위한 국가기술지원센터에서 일하고 있다. 아울러 장애와 청소년 범죄와 교육을 담당하는 국가기관에서 일하고 있다. 특히 장애학생을 비롯한 청소년 비행 예방과 관련한 연구에 참여하고 있다.
