캘리포니아대학교에서 헤겔의 ‘정신철학’ 연구로 박사학위를 취득, 브뤼셀의 자유대학교, 루뱅의 가톨릭대학교, 베를린의 훔볼트대학교, 덴마트의 코펜하겐대학교 연구원을 거쳐 현재 슬로바키아 과학아카데미 철학연구소 연구원으로 재직하고 있다. 독일관념론, 실존철학, 종교철학 분야의 권위자이며, 특히 헤겔의 『종교철학』과 관련해서는 현대를 대표하는 연구자이다. 주요 저작으로는 The Unity of Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit: A Systematic Interpretation (2000), Kierkegaard’s Relations to Hegel Reconsidered (2003), Idealism and Existentialism: Hegel and Nineteenth and Twentieth Century European Philosophy (2010), Hegel’s Interpretation of the Religions of the World: The Logic of the Gods (2018), An Introduction to Hegel’s Lectures on the Philosophy of Religion (2022) 등이 있다.
