미국 위스콘신 의과대학에서 임상조교수로 있으면서 위스콘신 주 밀위키에서 개인상담소를 운영하고 있다. 미국심리학회 39분과인 정신분석 분과 회원이며, 윤리위원장을 역임하였다. 그리고 정신분석 분과의 3섹션인 ‘여성, 성 그리고 정신분석’의 회장을 역임하였다. 현재 Psychoanalytic Psychology와 The Journal of Gay & Lesbian Psychotherapy의 편집위원이며, Contemporary Psychoanalysis의 편집위원장이다. 저자는 동료들에게 상담자로서 무엇을 할 수 있는지 집필하고 강연하도록 적극 독려하고 있다.
