저명한 보안 전문가이자 공학자로 영국의 경제지 「이코노미스트」는 ‘보안계의 구루(Guru)’라고 지칭했다. 「뉴욕타임스」의 베스트셀러 목록에 오른 『당신은 데이터의 주인이 아니다』(반비, 2016)와 『모두를 죽이려면 여기를 클릭하세요』(에이콘, 2019)를 비롯해 십여 권의 보안 관련 저서를 출간했다. 현재는 하버드 케네디 스쿨의 교수로 활동하며 매사추세츠 주의 케임브리지에 살고 있다.
