17세기 인물인 에드워드 피셔는 전문적인 신학자나 목회자는 아니었지만 평신도로서 신학적인 문제에 매우 정통했던 청교도였다. 피셔는 자신을 “가난한 런던 거주민”이라고 불렀으나 『개혁 신앙의 정수』(The Marrow of Modern Divinity, 1645)를 저술할 때는 상당한 양의 장서를 구할 수 있었다. 이 책이 워낙 유명한 탓에 다른 책들이 다소 가려지긴 했지만, 주목할 만한 저서로는 『성찬 수령자의 시금석』(A Touchstone for the Communicant, 1647), 『주의 만찬상으로 나아가는 런던의 문』(London’s Gate to the Lord’s Table, 1648), 『다섯 가지 근본 원리에 대한 믿음』(Faith in Five Fundamental Principles, 1650) 등이 있다.
