텍사스 크리스천 대학(Texas Christian University)에서 사회학과 범죄정의학, 인류학을 가르치고 있다. 혼란한 도시를 파헤치는 《거리를 해부하다: 무질서한 도시에 관한 모험(Tearing Down the Streets: Adventures in Urban Anarchy)》과 규제되지 않는 그래피티를 둘러싼 사회적 현상을 비판적으로 다룬 《스타일의 범죄: 도시 그래피티와 범죄의 정치(Crimes of Style: Urban Graffiti and the Politics of Criminality)》를 썼으며, 공저로 《문화범죄학(Cutural Criminology)》, 《경계의 민족지학(Ethnography at the Edge)》, 《문제 만들기(Making Trouble)》 등이 있다. 1998년 올해의 비평범죄학상을 수상했다. 현재 뉴욕 대학 선택범죄학(Alternative Criminology) 시리즈의 편집인이다.
