The Work of the Negative (Paperback)

In a contribution to psychoanalytic theory, Green presents an original model of the intrapsychic consequences of severe aggression and subsumes it under Freud's concept of the death drive. He formulates the negative as both the consistent rejection of whatever is intolerable to the ego as exemplified by the mechanism of repression, and the profound and pervasive destructiveness of the death drive. His 1993 Le travail du NTgatif , translated here, continues his three-decade inquiry, some stages of which have also appeared in English. Distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation c.
