글로스터셔 대학교 자연 사회 과학부 학과장이자 지리학, 사회학, 범죄학 부교수. 홀은 도시지리학과 세계화에 관심을 갖고 연구하는 인문지리학자이다. 홀은 인문지리학 분야와 관련하여 광범위하게 저술하고 있으며 여러 국제 회의에 자신의 연구 결과를 발표하였다. 또한 유럽연합, 영국 고등교육 기금 위원회, 글로스터셔 환경 신탁, 글로스터셔 시 의회 등 여러 응용 연구 및 컨설팅에도 참여하였다. 대표 저서로는 이 책(Urban Geography 외에도 『기업가적 도시(The Entrepreneurial City1998)』『도시 문화 - 주요 논문(The City Cultures Reader2000)』『도시 선물(Urban Futures2003)』『세이지 도시 개론(The Sage Companion to the City2008)』등이 있다.
