서울시립대학교에서 지진격리시스템을 이용한 내진설계를 연구하여 박사학위를 취득하였다. 한국건설품질연구원, 유니슨기술연구소에서 교량, 고속철도 등 사회간접시설물에 대한 내구성 및 내진성능 향상에 대해 연구하였고, 현재는 특허청 심사관으로 재직 중이다. 주요 저서로는 『교량 신축이음 설계와 시공』, 『콘크리트구조물 진단 및 유지관리』, 『건설비파괴시험입문』, 『건설기술자를 위한 콘크리트구조물 안전진단』 등이 있다.
