클리블랜드 오하이오에서 태어난 토니 애벗은 아동 및 청소년 소설을 100여 권 이상 저술한 작가이다. 그의 책들은 한국어, 이탈리아어, 스페인어, 프랑스어, 폴란드어, 터키어, 일어 등 여러 다양한 언어로 번역되었고 전 세계적으로 1,200만 부 이상 팔렸다. 코네티컷 대학교에서 음악과 심리학, 영문학을 전공했으며, 영문학으로 학사 학위를 받았다. 『무서운 아이들』, 『신비한 나라』 시리즈, 『드룬의 비밀』 시리즈 등을 크게 히트시킨 바 있으며, 저서 『파이어걸Firegirl』로 어린이책 작가삽화가 협회(The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators)에서 수여하는 골든 카이트상(Golden Kite Award) 픽션 부문을 수상했으며, 『포스트카드The Postcard』로 에드거 앨런 포 최우수 청소년 소설상(Edgar Allan Poe Award for best mystery in the juvenile)을 수상했다.
