1941년생. 뇌 시스템 및 인지신경과학 분야를 이끄는 선도적인 심리학자. 기억의 형태가 다양하며, 각 형태마다 다른 뇌 회로를 사용한다는 사실을 밝혀 세계적인 주목을 받았다. 샌디에이고 소재 캘리포니아 대학 의과대학 교수(정신의학, 신경과학, 심리학)이자, 샌디에이고 재향군인병원 연구경력과학자research career scientist이다. 저서로는 『기억과 뇌Memory and Brain』 , 『기초신경과학Fundamental Neuroscience』(공저) 등이 있다. 미국심리학회 최고과학공로상(1993), 미국철학회 칼 래슐리 상(1995), 미국 재향군인회 윌리엄 미틀턴 상(1994) 등 다수의 명예로운 상을 받았다.
