예일대 법대 교수로 재직 중. 학문적 관심사는 주로 조직의 소유와 구조에 관한 법경제학이고, 영리회사뿐 아니라 비영리·상호·협동조합·공동소유·신탁·조합기업에 관하여도 연구하고 있다. 또한 하버드대, 펜실베이니아대의 방문교수를 역임하였다. 최근의 저작으로는 Law and the Rise of the Firm(Reinier Kraakman, Richard Squire과 공저, 119 Harvard Law Review 1333, 2006), Corporation and Contract (8 American Law and Economics Review 1, 2006) 및 Globalizing Commercial Litigation (Jens Dammann과 공저, 94 Cornell Law Review 1, 2008) 등이 있다.

하버드대 법대 교수 및 ECGI(European Corporate Governance Institute)의 연구위원으로 재직 중. 회사법과 회사의 책임제도에 관한 경제학적 분석 분야에서 다양한 논문을 발표하였고, 회사법·회사재무·회사법이론 세미나와 비교회사지배구조에 관하여 강의를 하고 있다. William T. Allen과 Guhan Subramanian과 함께 Commentaries and Cases in the Law of Business Corporations 제3판을 출간할 예정이다(Aspen, 2009). 최근의 저서로는 Law and the Rise of the Firm(Henry Hansmann, Richard Squire 공저), 119 Harvard Law Review 1333, 2006, Property, Contract, and Verification: The Numerus Clausus Problem and the Divisibility of Rights(Henry Hansmann 공저), 31 Journal of Legal Studies S373, 2002 및 The Essential Role of Organizational Law(Henry Hansmann 공저), 110 Yale Law Journal 387, 2000 등이 있다.

취리히연방공과대학 법대 교수로 재직 중. 그전에는 제네바대 법대의 행정법 교수 및 유럽 사법연구센터(Centre d’etudes Juridiques Europeennes)의 소장을 역임하였다. 또한 유럽과 일본, 미국의 유수한 대학의 방문교수를 지냈고 제네바법조계의 일원으로서 법조 실무에 종사하였다. 또한 ECGI(European Corporate Governance Institute) 연구위원과 유럽민간금융위원회(European Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee)의 위원으로 재임하고 있다. 최근의 저작으로는 Optional rather than Mandatory EU Company Law (Joseph A. 도쿄대 법대 교수로 재직 중. 주요 관심 분야는 상법, 회사법, 금융 및 증권규제법이다. 시카고대와 하버드대 법대의 방문교수를 역임하였다. 최근 저작으로는 Corporate Law(4th ed, Kobundo, 2003, 일본어), Comparative Corporate Governance(Oxford University Press, 1998, Klaus Hopt 등과 공동 편집) 및 회사법의 경제학(도쿄대출판부, 1998, 三輪芳朗, 柳川範之와 공동 편집)등이 있다.

펜실베이니아대 법대 교수로 재직 중. 또한 법경제학연구소(Institue for Law and Economics) 공동소장으로 재임하고 있으며, 회사법에 관한 많은 글을 발표하고 있다. 프랑크푸르트대학교, 예루살렘대학교 및 컬럼비아대학교의 방문교수를 역임하였고 펜실베이니아 법조계에서 실무에 종사하고 있다. 최근 저작으로는 The Hanging Chads of Corporate Voting(Marcel Kahan과 공저), 96 Georgetown Law Journal 1227, 2008과 Hedge Funds in Corporate Governance and Corporate Control (Marcel Kahan과 공저) 155 University of Pennsylvania Law Review 1021, 2007 등이 있다.
