Anywhere Out of the World: Essays on Travel, Writing, Death (Hardcover)

런던에서 태어나 11세에 미국으로 왔다. 소설과 논픽션 등 27 권의 책을 집필하며 구겐하임 펠로십을 1회, 미국예술기금 펠 로십을 2회 받았다. 주요 작품으로 장편소설 『What Remains』, 『The Count of Concord』와 논픽션 『Anywhere Out of the World』가 손꼽힌다. 영문학 교수로서 『Speaking of Writing』, 『Literature: Craft and Voice』를 편저했다. 전미도서상 픽션 부 문 심사위원장을 지낸 바 있다. 「작가들이 하는 일The Writer’s Trade」은 단편집 『The Writer’s Trade & Other Stories』(1990)의 표제작이다.
