Animals and Society: An Introduction to Human-Animal Studies (Paperback)

미국 캘리포니아 대학교(U.C. Berkeley)를 졸업하고 캘리포니아 대학교(U.C. Davis) 대학원에서 문화인류학 석사 학위와 박사 학위를 받았다. 센트럴뉴멕시코커뮤니티 대학에서 사회학, 문화연구, 인류학을 가르치고 있고, 카니시우스 대학에서 인류동물학(anthrozoology) 석사 과정을 가르치고 있다. 동물과사회연구소(Animals & Society Institute, www.animalsandsociety.org)에서 인간동물학(Human-Animal Studies) 프로그램 책임자로 활동하고 있으며, 국제 토끼 보호 단체인 집토끼협회(House Rabbit Society)의 회장이다. 인간동물학의 세계적 권위자이며, 2012년에 펴낸 『동물은 인간에게 무엇인가(Animals and Society)』는 인간동물학을 집대성한 최초의 텍스트로 평가받고 있다. 뉴멕시코 주 앨버커키 교외에서 치와와 넷, 고양이 둘, 앵무새 하나, 집토끼 50여 마리, 그리고 남편과 함께 살고 있다. 저서로 Stories Rabbits Tell: A Natural and Cultural History of a Misunderstood Creature (2003), Low-Carb Vegetarian (2004), Why Animals Matter: The Case for Animal Protection (2007), Teaching the Animal: Human Animal Studies Across the Disciplines (2010), Speaking for Animals: Animal Autobiographical Writing (2012), Body Studies: An Introduction (2014), Mourning Animals: Rituals and Practices Surrounding Animal Death (2016) 등이 있다.
