오토 키르쉬하이머 (지은이) 정보 더보기

1905년 독일에서 태어난 유대인 혈통의 법학자이다. 그는 뮌헨, 쾰른, 베를린, 본 등에서 법학과 사회학을 공부하고 본 대학에서 저명한 헌법학자인 칼 슈미트(Carl Schmitt)의 애제자로서 논문지도를 받으면서 「사회주의와 볼셰비즘에 관한 국가이론」으로 박사학위를 받았다. 1933년 나치가 집권하자 그는 파리로 망명하여 프랑크푸르트 사회조사연구소에서 4년간 근무하면서 루쉐의 저술작업에 참여하여 공동저자가 되었다. 그 후 그는 미국으로 옮겨가 컬럼비아대학의 교수가 되었고, 1944-52년에는 지금의 CIA의 전신인 미국 전략사무국(U.S. Office of Strategic Services)에서 연구원으로 일하기도 하였으며, 나중에는 아메리칸대학과 하버드대학에서 근무하기도 했다. 다양한 경력과 훌륭한 학문적 업적을 남긴 키르쉬하이머는 1965년 비행기를 타러 가다가 심장마비로 숨진 후 다음 해 고향인 독일의 하일브론 유대인 공동묘지에 묻혔다.
