BBC, ≪워싱턴포스트≫와 같은 각국 주요 언론에서도 셀러브리티 연구의 창립자이자 대가로 알려진 학자로, 현재 영국 시티대학교 사회학과 교수이다. 주요 저서로는 『페임 어택(Fame Attack)』, 『이벤트 파워(Event Power: How Global Events Manage and Manipulate)』, 『대중문화(Popular Culture)』 등이 있다. 맥도날드화 이론으로 저명한 미국 메릴랜드대학교 사회학과 석좌교수 조지 리처(George Ritzer)와 전 11권에 달하는 『블랙웰 사회학 백과사전(The Blackwell Encyclopedia of Sociology)』 2판을 공동 편집하고 있다.
