현재 미국 템플대학교 영문학과 교수로 재직하고 있다. 또한 얼바인의 캘리포니아 대학, 벨기에의 루벤 가톨릭 대학, 아이오와 대학의 초빙 교수를 역임하고 있다. 그는 이론가이자 학자로서만이 아니라 이탈리아어와 프랑스어로 된 예술, 비평, 문학, 철학, 사회학 등 다방면의 저서들을 번역하며 전문 번역가로서도 왕성한 활동을 펼치고 있다. 특히 니콜라 페로 다블랑쿠르, 디노 부자티, 자크 데리다, 안토니아 포치, 알도 로시 등의 저서들을 번역하여 이들을 미국 내에 소개하는 데 큰 기여를 했다. 지은 책으로는 <번역의 재고찰-담화, 주관성, 이데올로기>, <보이지 않는 번역가-번역의 한 역사>, <번역학 강독> 등이 있다.
