아서 클라인먼 (지은이) 정보 더보기

현재 하버드대학 의과대학 국제보건 및 사회의학 교실(Department of Global Health and Social Medicine) 교수이자 정신의학, 의료인류학, 사회의학 분야의 세계적 석학이다. 2008년부터 2016년까지 하버드 아시아센터 의장을 역임했으며 2017년 한국을 방문해 특강을 하기도 했다. 정신의학 의사로 현장에서 수많은 환자들을 진료해온 경험과 50대 후반에 조발성 알츠하이머병에 걸린 아내를 10여 년간 직접 간병한 경험, 또 자신이 평생 천식을 앓아온 환자로서의 경험을 통해 치유와 돌봄의 문제를 오랫동안 연구해 왔다. 스탠포드 의과대학에서 수학했고 하버드 의과대학에서 40여년간 학생들을 가르쳤으며 미국정신의학회 평생공로회원이다. 또한 학문적 차원에서 돌봄(care)의 문제를 연구한 세계적인 <돌봄 전문가>이기도 하다. 이 책은 미국의 여러 의과대학에서 교재로 사용하고 있으며 의료인들은 물론 환자와 그 가족들까지 폭넓게 읽는 저자의 대표작이다. 그 외 저서로는 『The Soul of Care』, 『Social Suffering』 등이 있다.
