미국 조지타운대학교(Georgetown University)의 최고 석학의 지위인 유니버시티 프로페서(University Professor)이며 오닐 글로벌보건법 연구소의 창립 위원장이자 오닐 국가/글로벌보건법 연구소(O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law)의 소장이다. 세계보건기구의 국가/글로벌보건법 센터(World Health Organization Center on National and Global Health Law)의 센터장직을 겸임하고 있다. 조지타운대학교에서는 의학을, 존스홉킨스대학교(Johns Hopkins University)에서는 공중보건학을 가르친다. 전미과학한림원(National Academy of Sciences)의 종신 회원으로 선출되었고 영국 왕립공중보건협회(Royal Society of Public Health)의 석학 회원(fellow)으로 활동한다. 또한 랜싯글로벌보건법위원회(Lancet Commission of Global Health Law)의 의장이며 2015년 에볼라 유행에 관한 두 개의 글로벌 위원회에서 활동한 바 있다. 미국공중보건협회(American Public Health Association)로부터 받은 평생공로상(lifetime achievement award)을 포함하여 다수의 상을 수상했다. 영국의 국립소비자위원회(National Consumer Council)는 고스틴 교수에게 “의회와 정부를 촉구하여 사회복지를 위해 행동하도록 하는 데 가장 큰 영향력을 발휘한 사람”에게 수여하는 로즈마리 델브리지상(Rosemary Delbridge Memorial Award)을 수여했다.
