로버트 러바인과 세라 러바인은 미국의 부부 인류학자다. 러바인 부부는 아동, 양육, 교육 문제의 심리 및 문화인류학 연구로 잘 알려져 있으며, 지난 50년간 다수의 연구 프로젝트를 공동으로 수행하고 출판하였다. 세라 러바인은 영국에서 태어나서 자랐으며, 영국 옥스퍼드대학에서 학사과정을 마치고, 미국 시카고대학에서 사회복지학 석사학위, 하버드대학에서 인류학 박사학위를 받았다. 하버드대학 교육대학원에서 연구원으로 재 직하였다. 세라 러바인은 아프리카, 아시아, 라틴아메리카 등 4개 대륙의 다양한 소규모 부족사회를 대상으로 아동 발달과 사회화 관습에 관한 다수의 비교 연구를 진행하였다. 최근에는 개발도상국 어머니들의 학교 교육에 관한 하버드대학의 장기 프로젝트를 총괄하여 개발도상국 여성들의 학교 교육과 리터러시가 아동 양육, 특히 건강과 관련된 양육 관습에 미치는 영향력을 밝혀내었다. 『슬픔과 기쁨Dolor y Alegria』, 『어머니와 부인Mothers and Wives』, 『카트만두의 성자The Saint of Kathmandu』 등 아동, 사회화, 가족, 종교에 관한 다수의 책을 집필했다.
