Diane Ravitch (엮은이) 정보 더보기

교육개혁을 주제로 연구해온 교육사학자다. 컬럼비아대학교에서 박사학위를 받은 후 컬럼비아대학교를 거쳐 뉴욕대학교에서 교육사 및 교육정책을 가르쳤다. 2020년에 퇴직해 명예교수로 있다. 래비치는 연방교육부의 차관(1991-1993), 미국학업성취도평가(NAEP)의 자문위원과 브루킹스연구원의 석좌연구원(1997-2005)으로도 활동했다. 2010년 이후 학교선택제, 차터스쿨, 표준화시험, 교원평가 등의 교육개혁에 대한 입장을 전면적으로 바꿔 시민사회를 중심으로 한 풀뿌리 교육운동을 전개하고 있으며 온라인상의 교육논쟁에 적극적으로 참여하고 있다. 이 책은 그 결과물 중 하나다. 1974년 The Great School Wars: New York City, 1805-1973을 출간한 이후 이 책까지 22권의 단행본을 냈으며, 수백편의 논문과 교육논평을 발표했다. 2010년에 발간된 The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice are Undermining Education은 미국의 공교육 개혁, 그 빛과 그림자(2011)라는 제목으로 번역 출간되었다.
