영국 카디프대학교 저널리즘·미디어·문화연구스쿨의 학장이며 커뮤니케이션 담당 교수다. 미디어와 문화정치 분야에서 폭넓은 저술활동을 해 왔다. 2000년 이후에 발표한 저서로 『소비 자본주의를 넘어서: 뉴스와 광고는 상상력을 어떻게 제약하는가』(2013), 『24시간 뉴스의 세계』(2010), 『기후변화와 미디어』(2009), 『먼저 쏘고 나중에 질문하라: 이라크전쟁의 미디어 보도』(2006), 『시민인가 소비자인가: 정치 참여에 관하여 미디어가 우리에게 말해 주는 것』(2005), 『여론의 구축』(2001) 등이 있다. Peter Lang 출판사와 Blackwell’s and Westview 출판사에서 미디어와 문화 관련 편집자로 활동했고, ≪가디언≫, ≪로스앤젤레스타임스≫, ≪보스턴글로브≫에 칼럼을 기고해 왔으며, BBC라디오, BBCTV뉴스, ≪인디펜던트≫, ≪워싱턴포스트≫, NBC <투데이쇼> 등 미국과 영국의 각종 미디어에서 해설자로 일하고 있다.
