Dispute Processes : ADR and the Primary Forms of Decision-making (Hardcover, 3 Revised edition)

런던정치경제대학교(LSE)에서 수학했고, 1964년부터 명예교수가 될 때까지 동교에서 강의했다. 그의 초기 현지조사 연구는 보츠와나의 지역 차원의 분쟁을 대상으로 했다. 후기에는 서양 사회의 분쟁 과정을 연구했다. 그중에는 대안적 분쟁해결(ADR)에 관한 연구와 마크 갈란터(Marc Galanter)와 함께 수행한 런던의 상사 로펌들의 성장 경로에 관한 연구가 있다. 저서로는 이 책 『질서와 분쟁: 법인류학입문(Order and Dispute: An Introduction to Legal Anthropology)』(1979, 2013) 외에도 『규칙과 과정: 아프리카의 맥락에서 본 분쟁의 문화적 논리(Rules and Processes: The Cultural Logic of Dispute in an African Context)』[존 코마로프(John Comaroff)와 공저, 1981], 『물권법의 이해(Understanding Property Law)』[머피(W. T. Murphy) 및 플레사스(Tatiana Flessas)와 공저, 1987], 『분쟁과정: 대안적 분쟁해결과 의사결정의 일차적 형태들(Dispute Processes: ADR and the Primary Forms of Decision-Making)』[마이클 파머(Michael Palmer)와 공저, 1998, 2005, 2020], 그리고 『런던 시티의 한 법원: 21세기 초 런던의 민·상사 소송(A Court in the City: Civil and Commercial Litigation in London at the Beginning of the 21st Century)』(2013) 등이 있다. 2014년에 세상을 떠났다. 매리언 로버츠(Marian Roberts)와 결혼해 두 자녀와 여섯 명의 손주를 두었다.
