미국 뉴욕시립대학교 스태튼아일랜드컬리지 미디어문화학과 부교수. 캘리포니아대학교 샌디에이고에서 커뮤니케이션 박사 학위를 받았다. 포퓰리즘 정치 수사학, 당파 미디어 브랜딩, 계급의 문화 정치 등을 주요 주제로 다루면서 특히, 보수 언론 매체가 미국에서 사회 계급의 의미를 재구성하기 위해 타블로이드 미디어 스타일과 포퓰리즘 정치 수사학을 어떻게 사용해왔는지를 연구하고 있다. 그의 첫 번째 저서인 『보수를 노동계급의 브랜드로 연출하기: 폭스 포퓰리즘』은 『워싱턴포스트』나 『포브스』 같은 미국의 유명 언론뿐 아니라 일본의 『아사히신문』, 프랑스 통신사 AFP 등 외국의 주요 언론 매체에도 소개되면서 주목을 받았다.
