UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscinece and Human Behavior에 있는 Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences의 교수이다. Frakel 박사는 UCLA Parenting and Children’s Friendship Program의 설립자이자 책임자이다. 그는 미국정신보건원(National Institute of Mental Health, NIMH)에서 지원하는, ADHD와 ASD를 가진 아동들을 위한 사회기술훈련을 개발하는 2개의 연구를 연구책임자로 수행하였으며, 공동연구책임자로서 미국질병통제예방센터(Center for Disease Control and Prevention)에서 지원하는, 태아 알코올 스펙트럼장애 아동들의 사회기술훈련 연구를 한 바 있다(연구책임자 : Mary O’Conner). 또한 소아기 정신증에 관한 다학제 간 수련 연구사업을 수행하였다(연구책임자 : Peter Tanguay). Frankel 박사는 미국국립보건원(National Institute of Health, NIH)의 지원을 받는 Center for Autism Intervention Research Network(연구책임자 : Connie Kasari)의 공동연구자이며, Drown 재단에서 지원하는 소아기 과체중 예방 연구사업(연구책임자 : Wendy Slusser)에도 공동연구자로 참여하고 있다. 그는 자폐증, ADHD, 발달장애, 태아 알코올 스펙트럼장애, 소아 비만에 관한 46편 이상의 논문을 출판하였으며, Journal of Autism and Developmental Disabilities, Pediatrics, Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology, Child Psychiatry and Human Development, 그리고 Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology의 객원 리뷰어이다.
