케임브리지 대학 인류학과를 졸업하고 요크 대학에서 석사학위를 받았다. 이후 다니엘 밀러의 지도로 유니버시티칼리지런던에서 사회인류학 박사학위를 취득했다. 현재 맨체스터 대학 사회학과 강사로 재직하고 있다. 다니엘 밀러와 함께 “글로벌 데님 프로젝트”를 진행했다. 『그들이 입는 것을 여성들이 입는 이유Why Women Wear What they Wear』(2007), 『페미니즘이 중요한 이유Why Feminism matters』(공저, 2009)를 썼다.
