1982년 생. 축구선수의 꿈을 키웠지만 부상으로 꿈을 접고 선생님의 권유로 연기를 시작해 런던의 National Youth Theatre에서 처음 연극무대에 서게 된다. 첫 TV 출연은 2006년 BBC방송의 <The Ruby in the Smoke>, <The Shadow in the North>에서 짐 테일러 역을 맡으면서 시작됐다. 이듬해인 2007년 BBC 시리즈에서 의원 보좌관 대니 역을 맡아 주연배우로 성장했고 2008년 연극무대에서는 <The Face>에서 알콜중독자인 어머니를 돌보기 위해 학업을 그만두는 아들 헨리 역할로 호연을 펼쳐 영국의 일간지인 이브닝 스탠다드로부터 최우수 신인상을 받았다. 그리고 마침내 2009년 영국의 인기 SF시리즈 <닥터 후>의 11대 닥터 역할을 맡게 된다.
