그의 전문분야인 비교정치 전공 관련 저서 외에도 『북한 기행』(공저, 1986년), 『삶의 정치』(1997년), 『물구나무서기 정치』(1998년), 『움: 민구의 작은 발견 』(2007년)과 『Polemics and Foibles: Fragments on Korean Politics, Society and Beyond』(1998년) 등 산문 저서가 있다. 그는 10년가량 정치와 외교 마당에서 봉직한 바 있다. 미국의 동 켄터키 대학교를 시작으로 경희대학교 평화복 지대학원을 거쳐서 고려대학교 국제대학원을 마지막으로, 그는 거의 31년 동안 대 학 강단에서 가르치고 배우고 일했다. Sung Chul Yang, born in 1939 in Koksung, South Cholla Province, Korea, received his B.A. from Seoul National University, M. A. from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky. He served in the Korean Army as a student draftee. Currently Senior Adviser of the Kim Dae-jung Peace Foundation, he was a distinguished professor at Korea University, the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador to the United States, and a member of the Korean National Assembly. Previously, he was professor at the Graduate School of Peace Studies at Kyunghee University, and professor and a graduate faculty member of the University of Kentucky. He authored several books in Korean and English, including《한국정부론: 역대정권 고위직행정엘리트 연구, 1948-1993》On the Government of the Republic of Korea: A Study of Top Administrative Elites from 1948 to 1993,《북한정치연구》A Study of North Korean Politics, Korea and Two Regimes: Kim Il Sung and Park Chung Hee, and The North and the South Korean Political Systems: A Comparative Analysis.
