엘리너 루스벨트 (지은이)    정보 더보기
프랭클린 루스벨트 대통령의 부인으로, 1921년부터 소아마비로 고생하는 남편을 도우며 12년 동안 가난한 자, 불우한 어린이들, 차별받는 이들을 위해 왕성한 활동을 했으며, 전국청년협회, 아동복지, 빈민가퇴치계획, 평등권 등과 같은 분야에서 상당한 기여를 했다. 남편인 루스벨트가 죽은 뒤에 여성 최초 유엔 인권 위원장이 되었다. 인권과 여성의 지위향상에서 기념비적인 업적을 남겼고, 세계인권선언을 기초하고 채택하는 데 핵심적 역할을 해냈다. 20세기에 가장 존경받는 인물 중 하나로, '타임'지 표지에 세 번이나 오른 바 있다.
