독일 본대학교에서 박사학위를 받고, 현재는 마카오대학교의 철학 교수로 재직 중이다. 도가철학과 동서양 비교철학 및 사회정치사상이 주요 연구 분야다. 영어와 독일어로 왕성한 저술 활동을 해오고 있으며, 주요 저서로는《『도덕경』의 철학》(2006)(이학사, 2021),《풀어쓴 루만, 영혼에서 체계로Luhmann Explained: From Souls to Systems》(2011),《급진적 루만The Radical Luhmann》(2011),《도덕적 백치The Moral Fool》(2009),《진짜인 척하기, 장자 철학Genuine Pretending: On the Philosophy of the Zhuangzi》(공저, 2017) 등이 있다.
