미국 라이스 대학 영문학과의 리타 시어 거피 교수로 재직하고 있으며 생태 문화이론, 환경인문학, 젠더와 섹슈얼리티, 동물연구, 포스트휴머니즘 등에 관심이 있다. 특히 객체지향 존재론을 생태학과 연결하여 생태적 각성과 저월(subscendence)의 상상력과 관련된 독창적인 사유를 보여주는 이론가이다. 저서로는 Being Ecological (Penguin, 2018)〔『생태적 삶』, 앨피, 2023〕, Humankind: Solidarity with Nonhuman People (Verso, 2017)〔『인류: 비인간적 존재들과의 연대』, 부산대출판문화원, 2021〕, Realist Magic: Objects, Ontology, Causality (Open Humanities, 2013)〔『실재론적 마술』, 갈무리, 2023〕 등이 있다.
