뉴욕 주립대학교 버펄로(University at Buffalo)의 철학과 명예교수이며, 전문 분야는 미학과 감정 이론이고, 소설을 쓰기도 했다. 미국 미학협회 회장을 역임했다. 주요 저서로는 Gender and Aesthetics: An Introduction(2004), Savoring Disgust: The Foul and the Fair in Aesthetics(2011), 『음식 철학: 맛의 의미, 페미니즘과 어떻게 연결될까(Making Sense of Taste: Food and Philosophy)』(2014), Things: In Touch with the Past(2018) 등이 있다.
