콜로라도 주립대학교 물리학과에서 25년간 재직하면서 여러 교육상을 수상하였다. 최근에 그의 교육에서 중점을 두고 있는 과목은 대학 물리학이고 MCAT 시험(우리의 MEET 시험에 해당)의 문제 출제와 학생들이 이 시험 문제를 잘 풀 수 있도록 도와주는 일을 한다. 2011년 존스 교수는 과학을 알리는 프로그램인 작은 물리학 공작실(Little Shop of Physics)의 소장직을 잘 수행한 공로로 미국 물리학 교사 연합으로부터 로버트 A. 밀리컨 메달을 수상하였다. 존스 교수는 과학교육 의 효율성을 높이는 방법과 대학 강의실에 이 교육방법을 적용하는 일을 활발히 연구하고 있다. 존스 교수는 미국 전역과 벨리스, 에티오피아, 아제르바이잔, 멕시코, 슬로베니아에서 열린 과학교수법에 관한 워크숍에 초대받았다. 존스 교수와 부인 캐롤은 정원에 수십 종의 과실수와 관목을 키우고 있다. 그 가운데는 뉴턴의 정원에 있던 사과나무의 후손도 포함되어 있다.
