Prelock의 주요 학문적 업무는 의사소통 과학 및 장애 학과의 교수며, 의과대학 정신과에서 두 번째 업무를 수행하고 있다. 그녀의 주요 연구 관심은 자폐의 특성 및 중재와 협력적이고 간학문적인 실제에 관한 것이며, 사회적 조망수용, 또래 놀이, 정서 조절, 사회적 대화에 포함된 중립적 동선 등을 포함한다. 「Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools」의 부편집장으로 일해 왔으며, 미국 말-언어-청각협회(American Speech-Language-Hearing Association)의 2000년도 올해의 회원으로 선발되었고, 회장으로 선출되었다. Prelock 박사는 켄트주립대학교(Kent State University)에서 학사와 석사학위를 받았으며, 피츠버그대학교(University of Pittsburgh)에서 박사학위를 받았다. 또한 아동 언어 전문가 자격증을 소지하고 있다.
