미국 노터데임 대학교에서 박사 학위(Ph.D.)를 받았고, 퀸시 대학교에서 신학 부교수를 역임했으며, 현재는 노던 신학교에서 신약학 교수로 재직 중이다. 대표적인 저서로는 The Birth of the Trinity (Oxford), The Hermeneutics of the Apostolic Proclamation (Baylor), 『오직 충성으로 받는 구원』(새물결플러스 역간) 등이 있다. 매우 인기 있는 성경과 신학 팟캐스트인 “온스크립트”(OnScript)의 공동창시자이자 공동진행자이기도 한 그는 등산과 야구를 좋아하며 슬하에 7명의 자녀를 두고 있다.
