캘리포니아 주립 대학교 커뮤니케이션학 교수로 대학(원) 과정의 설득 커뮤니케이션, 글로벌 미디어, 매스미디어의 역사와 철학, 정치적 커뮤니케이션, 국제 커뮤니케이션 등을 강의하고 있다. 이전 활동으로는 시러큐스대학 공공 커뮤니케이션 스쿨에서 공공외교 부교수와 중국 칭화대학 저널리즘 및 커뮤니케이션 방문교수를 역임했었다. 또한 서던캘리포니아대학 공공외교센터에서 겸임교수 및 선임연구원으로 활동했다. 풀브라이트재단 종신회원이며, 독일 풀브라이트 장학생이었다. 저서로는 『Propaganda, Inc.: Selling America’s Culture to the World; Information War: American Propaganda, Free Speech and Opinion Control Since 9/11; War, Media and Propaganda: A Global Perspective』(야햐 카밀리포(Yahya Kamalipour)와 공편)와 『The Arrogance of American Power: What U.S. Leaders are Doing Wrong and Why Its’Our Duty to Dissent』 등이 있다.
