1640년(인조 18년)에 태어나서 1724년(경종 4년)에 귀양지에서 생을 마감했습니다. 조선 후기의 문신이었던 저자는 우암(尤庵) 송시열과 동춘(同春) 송준길 두 선생의 문하에서 공부하여 공조판서에까지 올랐습니다. 그러나 17세기 당쟁 속에서 파직과 복직 및 유배 등의 불행을 겪었습니다. 《천예록》을 비롯한 판타지 문학과 기타 저서를 남겼습니다. Im Bang was born in 1640 and died in 1724 in a place of exile. He was a competent civil officer of the late Joseon dynasty, who studied under Song Si-yeol (penname: Uam) and Song Jun-gil (penname: Dongchun) and even held a post at the Ministry of Works. Unfortunately, however, amidst the 17th-century party strife, he was dismissed from the royal court and sent into exile. Along with the 《Record of the Edge of Heaven》, he authored several other works of fantasy and literature.

순천향대 한국문화콘텐츠학과 교수. 중국 민주대학교에서 박사후과정을 마친 그의 주요 연구 관심사는 한국 고전 소설과 한국과 중국의 비교 문학이다. 저서로는 《조선 후기 한국 고전 소설의 관점》, 《한국과 중국 소설의 비교》, 《신광한 기재기이》 등이 있다. Introduced and annotated by Sung Woon Chun Sung Woon Chun (PhD, Korea University) is a professor in the Department of Korean Culture & Contents at Soonchunhyang University. He completed postdoctoral studies at Minzu University of China, and his principal research interests are Korean classical novels and comparative literature between Korea and China. Dr. Chun’s publications include The View of Korean Classical Novels in the Late Joseon Period, Comparison between Korean and Chinese Novels, and Shin Gwanghan’s Gijae Records the Extraordinary.

He has translated Korean premodern, modern, and contemporary literature, historical documents and annals, and scholarly works on religion, astronomy, and other topics. He also translated a book about a Korean leprosarium.
