??鹿鳴이여 食野之?이로다
我有嘉賓하여 鼓瑟吹笙호라
吹笙鼓簧하여 承筐是將호니
人之好我이 示我周行이엇다
유유히 우는 사슴의 무리들이여 평야의 대쑥을 먹는구나
내게 반가운 손님이 오셔서 비파를 타고 생황을 부노라
생황 불어 장단 두드려 광주리에 폐백 담아 대접하니
나의 뜻을 따를 사람은 나에게 주나라의 법장을 행하라
○역주 : 주자가 <녹명>은 화락하고도 음란하지 않다고 하였으니, 주자는 선왕을 이시에서 문왕으로 본 듯하다. 군자를 대함에 비파와 생황을 불어 흥을 돋우고 폐백의 예를 다하였다. 이시는 왕도를 행하려고 하는 시대에 높은 지위에 있는 사람이 군자들을 불러 모아 연회를 함에 있어서 예와 악을 반듯하게 갖추어 예우하는 모습을 그리고 있다. 즉 상하의 조화가 아름답게 표현되었으며 윗사람이 아래로 군자를 대하는 미덕이 살아 있었으니, 이미 이러한 행위는 왕도의 시작이라고 할 수 있으며 이시에서 그 시작을 느낄 수 있다.
