애널리사 베르타는 30년간 캘리포니아 대학교 샌디에이고 캠퍼스의 생물학과 교수를 지냈으며, 전공은 해양 포유류의 해부학과 진화생물학이다. 척추동물 고생물학회의 회장과 <척추동물 고생물학> 학회지의 선임 공동 편집인을 지냈으며, 수많은 과학 논문을 집필했다. 또한 <해양 척추동물의 생활과 진화학적인 시간>, <해양 척추동물: 진화 생물학> 등 과학자뿐만 아니라 비과학자를 위한 책을 여러 권 펴냈다.
