아동문학계와 영국의 예술계에서 유명한 인물입니다. 1974년에 첫 동시를 발표한 뒤로 수많은 동시집과 논픽션 작품, 그림책을 만들었으며 여러 상을 받았습니다. 가장 대표적인 작품은 《곰 사냥을 떠나자》와 동시 〈초콜릿 케이크〉입니다. 그는 또한 ‘BBC 라디오4’에서 ‘워드 오브 마우스(Word of Mouth)’라는 프로그램을 진행하고, 가디언지에 글을 쓰고, 런던 대학에서 아동문학과 교수로 강의를 하는 등 다양한 활동을 하고 있습니다.
