bank는 '은행'이죠. 이런 은행bank이 깨지면 어떻게 될까요? 너무 황당하다구요? 영어에선 은행이 깨지면 '파산'이라는 단어가 되거든요. ㅎㅎ bankrupt가 바로 '파산한'의 뜻입니다. -rupt가 바로 깨지고 부서지는=break 것을 의미해요. Oh! I'm bankrupt.나 망했어 그래도 아직 이 -rupt 녀석이 낯설죠?

그렇다면 -rupt가 들어간 다른 단어들도 한번 살펴봐요. 먼저 interrupt는 '방해하다'라는 뜻의 단어예요. inter-가 '(양자)사이에=between'라는 뜻을 가지고 있구요, -rupt는 부수는=break 것을 의미하니까 사이에 들어가서 분위기를 부수는 것, 즉, '방해하다'라는 의미를 갖게 된 거죠.
